Skin Tag Removal
As the largest organ of the body, the skin can experience a myriad of conditions which can affect its appearance. Skin tags, whilst completely harmless, can cause us embarrassment, especially if they are located in highly-visible areas such as the face, neck, arms and chest.
The removal of benign lesions such as skin tags is usually not available on the NHS, as these treatments are considered cosmetic and not medically necessary. At Inspire Cosmetic Surgeons in Hale, Cheshire, we understand how a simple, quick procedure can make all the difference to our patients’ confidence and sense of wellbeing. Therefore, we offer surgical skin tag removal with no general anaesthetic, overnight hospital stay or lengthy downtime.
Surgical skin tag removal is often referred to as removal by excision (cutting). This is done either with a pair of surgical scissors or a scalpel. Initially, your surgeon will map out the skin tag and sterilise the area. A numbing cream or injection will then be administered, in order to completely negate any unpleasant sensation when the removal takes place. Numbing take a few minutes to take effect. Once the area is numb, your surgeon then take a scalpel and cut the skin tag away from the base. A pair of scissors may also be used, depending on the size and shape of the skin tag. Once the skin has been removed and depending on its size, sutures may be made to ensure effective healing and a minimal scar.
If you are fit and well and are looking to have one or more of your skin tags removed quickly and effectively with no pain or reoccurring trips to the clinic, surgical skin tag removal will be a highly-effective solution. Before a treatment can commence, you will be asked to attend a no obligation consultation with your surgeon here at our Manchester clinic, so he can check your medical history and examine the areas to be treated. As soon as he is able to ascertain that you are healthy and suitable for treatment, he can proceed.
Once your skin tag has been removed, it should not return, as it has been permanently and physically cut out of your skin. However, sometimes, if the skin tag has been removed from an area of friction (where clothing or skin rubs against it on a regular basis) other skin tags may appear. Some people are more susceptible than others at experiencing skin tags. If more appear, you can simply have them removed again. There is no limit on the number of skin tags you can have removed, however, you may need several clinic visits if there are a lot to remove at one time, as the body needs to be able to heal effectively after each session. You can discuss the number of skin tags you would like to have removed and which are a priority, in your no obligation consultation.
As you have an injectable anaesthetic prior to the treatment, you won’t feel anything during your skin tag removal procedure and it is very quick. The area will be dressed afterwards and may feel a little sore once the numbing has worn off. However, taking some mild painkillers such as Paracetamol should ease the discomfort.
You will see the results immediately and within 2 weeks, any wound created should have healed effectively. You may wish to return to the clinic so that you can have any sutures removed and have the areas checked over to ensure that you have healed properly.
